SS26 footwear retail round-up: Chicago and Miami

It’s been a minute since I’ve sent a newsletter. I’ve been deep in projects, navigating tariffs, and on what feels like nonstop travel—but I’m back.

Let’s pick up where we left off with SS26 footwear retail round-up, fresh from visits in Chicago and Miami.

For those new here, welcome. These newsletters are where I share real-time retail insights, emerging silhouettes, commercial winners, and directional shifts. You can expect trend edits, practical takeaways, and behind-the-scenes.

As always, I love hearing from you—questions, feedback, or specific categories you want covered. Let’s get back into it.

Chicago & Miami: 3 Key Constructions

Across both Chicago and Miami, three construction trends stood out immediately — consistent, commercial, and clearly directional for Spring ’26.

Minimalist Slides
Sandal slides continue to define the season, with both flat and heeled versions reflecting a broader shift toward clean dressing. Streamlined straps, smooth leathers, and neutral tones emphasize minimalism and versatility. Flats lean into refined comfort, while block and kitten heels provide understated lift that transitions effortlessly from day to evening. There’s also a noticeable emphasis on refined toe character and evolving heel shapes, adding sophistication to otherwise simple silhouettes.

Pointy Toe Sandals
The pointy insole shape is gaining traction in Spring ’26 sandals, bringing a sleek, elongating profile to warm-weather footwear. This subtle design shift introduces architectural interest and a sharper edge to minimal constructions. The effect feels polished yet wearable — a modern update that elevates core silhouettes without pushing into excess.

Danceteria
Dance and disco-inspired footwear is injecting playful energy into the market. Glossy finishes, strappy constructions, and soft metallic accents nod to nightlife without feeling costume-driven. These styles bring effervescence to everyday dressing — a spirited aesthetic that feels celebratory yet versatile enough for daytime wear.
